A Thrilling Weekend!

Last weekend I was lucky enough to take part in two great activities across the county.

On Friday, my wife Kate and I had a wonderful day in the Lee Valley area, firstly with the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust, exploring the Rye Meads Nature Reserve. Here we observed the habitat improvement work recently undertaken and learnt more about the Riverfly monitoring scheme. We then moved to the Lee Valley Regional Park for a tour, and witnessed the wonderful work of volunteers across the park. Our final destination was the Lee Valley White Water Centre where a group of us got to experience the rapids in all their glory. The facilities were excellent and the experience thrilling. The guides who accompanied us down the rapids were first class. They made sure everybody in the boat had an incredible experience, having prepared us well in advance before taking to the white water. A brilliant day out, smiles and laughter all round and highly recommended.

The following morning, I took part in the ‘Peace Plunge Abseil’ in aid of Peace Hospice. This fundraising event involved abseiling down the tallest building in Watford and to make it more exciting I decided to do it dressed in full Sheriff regalia, sword and all! I have known about the outstanding care and support Peace Hospice Care provide to the community for a long time and it was wonderful to support a local charity. I was thrilled to learn that over £10,000 was raised at the event.

Thank you to all those at Lee Valley and Peace Hospice for an unforgettable weekend.
