The Under Sheriff of Hertfordshire

 

David White qualified as a solicitor in 1991. He is a partner in the practice Duffield Harrison LLP based in Hoddesdon. Having initially spent 20 years as a Divorce and Family solicitor, David switched disciplines 15 years ago and now specialises in Wills, Probate, Estate Administration and Inheritance Tax planning.

 

David was brought up in Hertford and has spent all of his life living and working in the County.  Having represented the County in numerous sporting activities, both through school and outside, David felt that he wanted to give back to the County as a thank you for what it and all of the wonderful volunteers had done to help him.

 

As a result, over the last 35 years David has taken on many voluntary roles and volunteered to help in many fields.  David was an Honorary Legal Advisor at the Hertford Citizens Advice Bureau, before moving to spend 10 years on their Management Committee, with 5 of those spent as Chair of that Committee. During this time David spent 5 years as manager of a youth football team, Bengeo Tigers FC. He also spent 5 years as Chair of the Club.  After children, David enjoyed 10 years as a school governor acting as Vice Chair of Governors for some of that time.

 

David is currently President of the Hoddesdon Rotary Club and a member of the Love Hoddesdon BID management committee, roles that he thoroughly enjoys.

 

David and his wife Jenny live in Bengeo and have 4 children between them. Jenny is a local musician, and together, David and Jenny wrote and recorded 2 albums, both publicly available. David was responsible for most of the lyrics but also sang on one of the songs. Music plays a large part in David’s social life, where he is a member of Jenny’s locally based Choir and helps Jenny in running the sound and stage for a number of events for Hertford Town Council. David will often MC these community-based events. He is soon to publish his first children’s novel.

 

David was appointed Under Sheriff on 18th April 2026 and is looking forward to his first year in the role.
