Anna Rankin, High Sheriff of Hertfordshire
Anna grew up at Micklefield Hall, near Rickmansworth and returned there, together with her husband Jamie, to take over the house and farm from her parents, Dick and Sarah Edmonds, in 1998.
Both Anna and Jamie were working in retail at the time but quickly realised there was insufficient income for them to continue to live at Micklefield unless they diversified the business. The first wedding they hosted was in May 1999 and a new business was born (along with their son, Hugo, the very same weekend). Micklefield has hosted hundreds of weddings, corporate days, film shoots and charity fundraisers in the last 27 years.
Over the years, Anna has supported many charities, both national and local, was a trustee of Kids Kidney Research, a trustee of Friends of Holy Cross which supports the fabric of the Norman church in Sarratt, and also set up the Dick Edmonds Stroke Appeal, following the death of her father in 2002, which means that Watford General Hospital has a dedicated stroke unit.
She loves all things outdoors including biking, swimming and tennis and is very competitive (which often results in disappointment as she is not particularly accomplished!). For the last 20 years, she has kept Oxford Sandy and Black pigs and her 'Fat Anna' sausages are legendary.
Anna’s passion is family - she and Jamie have four children and four grandchildren and are lucky enough to have four generations living at Micklefield, including Anna's mother, Sarah - but not just her own family. Her passion extends to all those charities busy supporting families that need it most.
Alongside her prime shrieval duty to support the police, the judiciary and the emergency services, Anna's theme is Family: "where families thrive, communities flourish" and she has seen first-hand the incredible impact that even some of these smaller charities can make.
During her year of office, Anna will support the High Sheriff's fund at Hertfordshire Community Foundation. In March 2027, at the annual Awards ceremony, Anna will present commendations and prizes to individuals and voluntary organisations who have given outstanding service to the county.
