High Sheriff's Justice Service - Sunday 20th November

A High Sheriff's Justice Service is a traditional annual service with the main aim of bringing together those involved in the maintenance of law and order, the administration of justice and those involved in related voluntary organisations. Whilst the duties of a High Sheriff's role have evolved over time, supporting the Crown and the judiciary remain central elements of the role today. The annual Justice Service is therefore one of the most important dates in a High Sheriff's year. A lot of hard work went into arranging it by the Stefanou Foundation and Stefanou Office team with fantastic help from the current Under Sheriff, Richard Taylor, and the past Under Sheriff, James Williams. The Service itself was very moving with beautiful music from the Cathedral Choir and from St Albans Next Stage Choir.

The theme of the Service was "Justice and Mercy" which was based on the High Sheriff's badge adorning two swords - a sharp one for justice and a blunt one for mercy.The event was attended by a fantastic selection of people in the County, including the Lord Lieutenant, Lord Justice Irwin and many other judges, public and voluntary sector leaders, representatives from faith communities and High Sheriffs from adjoining counties. The service also helped to raise donations for the High Sheriff Awards, for which applications are now open.
