Herts Domestic Abuse Helpline AGM

Yesterday, I was asked to speak at Hertfordshire Domestic Abuse Helpline AGM, alongside Hertfordshire’s Police & Crime Commisssioner (David Lloyd) the Director of Children’s Services (Jenny Coles) and a domestic abuse Survivor who is now a Helpline Volunteer. The event was held in County Hall and the Chairman of Hertfordshire County Council was also present.

I chose to focus on domestic abuse throughout my year as High Sheriff, because domestic abuse affects every single aspect of society. A rise in reported incidence of Domestic abuse in Hertfordshire this year should give us hope that more victims feel that they can come forward. But it also shows we still have a long way to go to combat domestic abuse and break the cycle.

Herts Domestic Abuse helpline provides anonymous support and signposting for victims, perpetrators and professionals. They are a crucial pathway for anybody who is unsure where to go, or what to do.

I am heartened by the passion that I've witnessed from every single domestic abuse organisation that I have seen so far this year. I feel honoured that I'm able to use the unique position of High Sheriff to work alongside such inspiring groups to curtail the occurence of domestic abuse in Hertfordshire.
