New High Sheriff takes office

I am delighted and honoured to have been appointed High Sheriff of Hertfordshire for 2019/2020 and would like to thank Suzy Harvey for all her hard work during the last year. Suzy has left a great legacy in her work on modern slavery and has encouraged many young volunteers, especially the Police cadets, throughout the county. She deserves a good rest!

I am looking forward to a year of service as I hold this ancient office and I hope to be able to use the role to help, thank, support and encourage those who play a part in making Hertfordshire a better place for us all.

During this year I hope to work in two areas. First, I will continue the traditional responsibility of the High Sheriff in supporting the Judiciary, the Police, emergency services and all other agencies involved in crime prevention and the administration of justice. Secondly, it will be my privilege to recognise, promote and thank those who work in the charitable and voluntary organisations across Hertfordshire.

As I carry out these two parts to the role, I am particularly interested in supporting and encouraging work in building stronger communities, and in interfaith and integration initiatives.
