Visits galore!

July 16, 2018

During the heat wave of the last month, I have enjoyed more wonderful visits around the county.

At the start of June I attended the 'Volunteering Herts Valuing Volunteer Management Awards’ in Hatfield, hosted by Community Hertsmere. Amongst the worthy winners were Age UK Herts, who have excelled in the field of volunteer management. The event took place during Volunteers Week and I would like to offer my personal thanks to all those across the county, of all ages, who volunteer in some capacity, and help to enrich the lives of others on a daily basis.

It was a particular pleasure to meet Ethel at the Community Central Volunteer Fair in St Albans. Ethel is 100 years old and Britain's oldest volunteer. What tremendous service!

I was honoured to attend the Hertfordshire Magistrates AGM, and also speak about my year at the Amwell Rotary Club.

One of the highlights of the last month was meeting The Earl of Wessex, during his trip to the University of Hertfordshire. The Earl is Trustee of the Duke of Edinburgh Award and during his visit he was able to view displays and demonstrations showcasing the diverse skills regional secondary school pupils have learnt as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award. I have no doubt he was very impressed by the great efforts of our young people from around the county.

I was also privileged to attend a number of events in relation to Armed Forces Day, including a parade in Bishop’s Stortford and the flag raising at County Hall.

Finally, I am very grateful to The Mayor of Broxbourne for giving me a tour of her borough earlier this week. It was fascinating to see some of the important organisations and initiatives underway there. I very much enjoyed visiting 'Grow! Community Allotments’, Cedars Park and John Warner School in Hoddesdon. Thank you to all those who took time out of their busy schedules to meet me.

I look forward to the visits that are to come over the summer months, and hope this glorious weather continues.
