The Hertfordshire High Sheriff's Fund
Administered by Hertfordshire Community Foundation, registered charity no: 299438
The High Sheriff's Fund was set up in 1995 by the then High Sheriff, Nicholas Halsey DL, following discussions with the late Brigadier Freddie De Butts, a Trustee of Hertfordshire Community Trust (as the Foundation was known then) and Chief Constable Peter Sharpe. The object was to provide the High Sheriffs with a dedicated county-based Fund on which to focus their fundraising activities and, as a result, provide monetary Awards for projects involving young people in activities which have a positive impact on crime reduction and community safety.
'Crimebeat Awards', as these are known, are part of a National Crimebeat scheme, co-ordinated locally by Hertfordshire Community Foundation, and are awarded annually at the High Sheriff's Awards evening at County Hall. The High Sheriff's Crimebeat Awards give county-wide recognition to the outstanding work being done by and with young people in Hertfordshire in local community and voluntary groups. The Awards highlight the positive contribution made by young people to make their communities safer and better for everyone.
In addition, each High Sheriff makes a series of Personal Awards to recognise achievement in the local community for those individuals and groups whose efforts improve the quality of life for all.
The High Sheriff also makes an Award jointly with the Prince’s Trust, to recognise the young person, within the Price’s Trust, who has made the most progress towards achieving her or his goals.
